Nutrition, relaxation, asana self-practice
Germany, April 2026: Just water
I remember my first yoga class decades ago.
The topics were:
What to eat. Yoga is a peaceful practice. One of the moral guidelines was not to do any harm. So a vegetarian diet was recommended. Today I’m sure it would be a vegan diet. With vegetables and fruit the body remains light. Lentils and beans have enough protein. A healthy vegetarian diet is not heavy and facilitates the asana practice.
I still remember how the teacher led us into a deep relaxation. I had never before experienced such a state of being where my body and mind were so relaxed as if I were dead, but I was not even sleeping. Some people fall asleep, yes, but not everybody. The experience to be between sleep and being awake amazed me.
At the end of the class the teacher recommended to repeat at home alone what we had learned in the yoga class. Explicit he were asked to practice alone at home and if only 15 minutes every day.
All the recommendations are excellent till now. It’s a basic orientation. Everybody can integrate these practices in a daily life. To get back to the basics is always doable.
Times are crazy. The mind, the soul and the body need to be relaxed. There are tools to get there.
Enough for today.
