I follow the 14 days Ashtanga reset created by Kino MacGreggor. Today purvottanasana was the pose to explore.
For me this pose is not a back bending pose. Only the head hangs backwards. The body is supposed to be in line. This is the challenge This defines the pose. Strength is needed. The abdomen must be engaged. The feet are supposed to be parallel.
The weight of the body is on the hands and a bit on the feet. The body tends to collapse. The task is to work against it and to keep the body straight. Bandhas are engaged. To breathe evenly is another challenge.
It’s a counter pose to all these forward bending asanas.
